Meeting came to order at 7:30pm

Officers' Reports

Seneschal
Received an e-mail from Dame Katriona Kingdom New Groups minister; after all cards were sent, Lord Keegan’s expired, so a new one was ordered online and sent to Dame Katriona.
Discussion about gathering the Canton members (and anyone who has actively assisted us) for a dinner at Pennsic. Tentatively this was scheduled for Monday, Aug. 11, 2003. Any changes will be posted on website.

Exchequer
The Canton owes Penny money for the demo sale items and for the water cooler for fighter practice.
We have $123
We don’t have an account yet
Bilgisayar: Bhakail can put Canton money into their account and they will NOT be able to access it. They are required to give it to the Canton when asked.

Castellan/Chatelaine
No new events. We want to be very newbie friendly.
Spoke to baronial castellan who has a computer program for the website to connect newbies to specific officers for info. (e.g. checking “fighting” box will email the Knight Marshall)
Next scheduled demo is the craft fair in Media. A special meeting will be held prior to arrange details.
Penni: Added links to event announcement for Yule to connect to Castellans for Gold Key if newbies need garb.

Mistress of Arts and Sciences
Garb workshops at Elleanora’s. Must be changed to Tuesdays, until further notice. From now until Pennsic we will be concentrating on warm weather garb.
Class lists for Pennsic was made available.
Lady Melodie printed out cross-stitch patterns for all officer badges.
Lord William shared a new book on Mead-making. Discussion resulted in request for a Mead class to be taught to the Canton in the fall.
Wm. Fitzwalter told about Margot Anderson as a resource for patterns for late period garb, particularly English Elizabethan.

Herald
Laurel leaves were not a complete circle on “proposed” device, so changes were made and shown to members present. Discussion resulted in most preferring black and gold design. Device will be submitted once we are incipient.
Found documentation to justify canton name if it is questioned.

Knight Marshal
Fighter practice continues on Tuesday nights from 6:30-8:30pm. Attendance varies. Lord William is still working on locating an indoor site for winter.
Lord William will notify the Seneschal of Caer Adamant of the practice days and times to keep good relations.
Lord Callum’s armory is available to Canton members. Lord Asbjorn has also offered to help build armor.
Wm. Fitzwalter offered a possible project for making a “segmented lorca”.
Bilgisayar stated that he will possibly have access to loaner armor after Pennsic.

Web mistress
Technical difficulties delayed the posting of last month’s minutes.
Once Canton name is approved “bachhost” will host domain for $20/year.

Special Committees

Yule
Gina will be setting up separate meetings for the Yule committee. A Yahoo group was formed for this purpose. She would like to have an auction at the event, and is accepting donations.

Beltane Brew and Brawl
Del and Mike met with the owner and looked at two possible areas for the event at that site. One area was crop fields, the other sheep pasture. He said that the sheep pasture would make a much better location due to the size. This would also give more flexibility to the scheduling. They will be going to the site again in the near future to obtain a map, he would like other people to join them on the tour. Tentative date the weekend of 4/30/04-5/2/04. After Pennsic a committee should be formed to start working on details.

Old Business

Pennsic. Planning on a dinner to celebrate the canton. Monday seems best.

Chamberlain – No vote was held last month, Corwyn expressed interest. Exchequer stated that she must hold the list of Canton property, at this point a Chamberlain is not needed. Issue tabled.

New Business

Chronicler – Lady Marrun volunteered for the position. Members voted and unanimously approved.

Common Pavilion – Lord William stated that this should be a priority to enable Canton members to “hang out” together. Wm. Fitzwalter mentioned 10x13 ft. pavilion from Wal-Mart. Del mentioned possibly making one. Discussion tabled until after Pennsic.
