Light the Beltaine fires and let them burn all the weekend long!  Come join the Incipient Canton Gleann nam Feòrag Dubh in the Barony of Bhakail as we celebrate our first camping event - actually our first event ever.

There will be many activities from A&S classes, in at least 4 different tracks, including a BREWER'S UNIVERSITY! We will also have Marshaled activities and tourneys (heavy, fencing, archery and thrown weapons). A bonfire will be lit Friday evening and burn through Saturday. A brewing competition will be held Saturday and a lottery will be held to win a chance to be a guest judge.

A baronial court for Their Excellencies Lorcan Dracontius and Scheherazade al-Zahira will be held during feast. The feast will be prepared by Lord Bilgisayar Tajir al-Hisoon and his lovely wife, Fiona Villon. Dayboard will also be offered on Saturday.  A "tavern" will be open on site in the evenings (donations suggested); please bring a photo ID since no-one under 21 will be allowed in the tavern.

Merchants are welcome and space is almost unlimited, please contact the Merchant-crat William Fitzwater .  All merchants are asked to sell their wares in the merchant area only.

Ample camping space is available. Group camping is readily available and encouraged. (Think mini-Pennsic!) Fire pits will be allowed in camps, but must be attended at all times. Please bring fire extinguishers if you plan to have a fire in your encampment.

Water is available on site for solar shower bags; be aware that there are no existing structures for this purpose.  There may be shower passes available for purchase for use at the local YMCA.

This is a tradional Beltaine festival being held in a traditional sheep pasture. (consider this a warning!)

Feast is limited to 80 people and must be pre-registered.

Site Rules:

2. Parents will be asked to donate time to the children's activities; children under 6 must be accompanied by a parent at all times.

Tourneys and Competitions

War of the Toys - Toys for Tots Donations Challenge
The gauntlet has been tossed down and taken up!  The heavy weapons fighters have challenged the fencers to a War of the Toys with the intention to meet and battle at this selfsame Beltaine event.  Each group will be competing with the other to see which side can bring the most toys for Toys for Tots!  So bring along a teddy bear or coloring book with crayons, or if you can't make the event, pass something along.. Toys should be new in the original packaging with no gift-wrap (please no toy guns or water-filled toys).  Lord Santiago "Jade" de Montoya has offered to transport toys from his area (for either side!) and others will likely be similarly willing.  Don't let this challenge go unanswered!  Perhaps this day the age-old rivalry between the Fencers and the Fighters shall finally be decided! For those more inclined to the gentler arts, you are more than welcome to make a donation in favor of your favorite fighter or fencer. Or yourself! Remember: it’s the kids who really benefit from this! It really takes so little from our personal lives to help a child in need.  Your donation will make a difference to the child who receives it, and might just be the one to sway the balance of the challenge.

Beltaine Mixed Pairs Fencing Tournament
Celebrate the spirit of Beltaine in a mixed pairs tournament. Lord and lady pairs will duel each other in this (best 2 out of 3) single-elimination tournament. Mixed forms pairs are permitted for leftover lords or ladies. Combatants may purchase additional lives with donations to Toys for Tots: one toy equals one life, so two toys bring a pair back into the tournament. The tournament begins at 11 am.
Mistress of the Lists: Lady Triona McCasky
Marshal in Charge: Lord Geoffrey Gryphon

Beltaine May Day Single-Elimination Heavy Weapons Tournament
Single-elimination tournament. Combatants may buy a second life with the donation of a toy for the Toys for Tots program.
The tournament begins at 11 am.
Mistress of the Lists: Lady Magdalena Winter
Marshal in Charge: Lord Eirikr Thorinsson

Épée Woods Battle
In the afternoon, if the ground is dry, rapier fighters are invited to retreat to the shady woods for a woods battle where shadiness abounds.

Armoured Woods Battle
In preparation for the Pennsic woods battle, we will have a half-hour woods battle after the tournament and a brief break.

List Field and Woods Cleanups
Although the water bearers usually take responsibility for cleanup after tourneys and battles, for this event we are asking for fresh volunteers to augment our wonderful hardworking waterbearers and to bring fresh vigor to their labors.  If each person drops by the list field and contributes a few minutes of labor to the waterbearing cleanup effort, there won't be anything left for the waterbearers to do.  This is your big chance to get a peek into the woods too!  Please check in with waterbearing to make sure the list field/woods are safe for entrance and to find out what waterbearing is doing so you can take over a small section for a tired waterbearer.

Brewing competition
Prizes will be awarded for best Mead, best Beer, best Cordial, best Wine, and best Overall.  Some categories may be combined if there are insufficient entries.  Brews will be judged using the standard East Kingdom Brewer's Guild judging standards: Bouquet (10 pts), Appearance (10 pts), Texture (10 pts), Taste (10 pts), Finish (10 pts), Documentation (25 pts), and Overall Impression (25 pts).  Hosted by the Celtic Cock Brewer's Guild.  Competition starts at 4pm.  A guest judge seat will be raffled off before then to help the guild cover costs of materials.

Thrown Weapons Open Range
Bring your thrown weapons and get some practice! The range will be open to all who wish to improve their skills. Sadly we have little to no loaner equipment, so if you have equipment you don't mind loaning, then we would be overjoyed. Throwers of every skill level will be appraised for safety by the Marshals and thereafter are invited to participate in the range and later the tournament.

Cut the Maiden's Braids Thrown Weapons Tournament
Our wooden target has a painted picture of a maiden badly in need of a trim, therefore the scoring areas are to each side of the center instead of the center. A challenge! Each participant will have one throw to try to cut the lady's braids and scoring will be based on who cuts the Viking maiden's braids first. All who hit her head are disqualified. Tournament starts at 2pm
Thrown Weapons Marshals: Lord Calogero Urso and Lord Christopher Jameson .

Archery Royal Rounds
Archery Marshal: Lord Cynon

Archery Novelty Shoot
Archery Marshal: Lord Cynon

Other Festivities

Lighting of the Bonfire
This Beltaine event will be inaugerated on Friday night at 8pm with a short procession to the bonfire by the torchbearers with appropriate music provided on the bagpipes by our own Alisdar MacGiolle Chroiste.  This will be followed immediately by
European Dancing with the Bhakaili Branslers and the Bhakail Dance Cabal.

Presentation at the Tavern
Join the over-21 crowd at the Tavern on Satruday night at 8pm for a very ribald presentation from the artisan Baron Luketarr to Her Excellency ScheherazadeAllouyna al-Zahria, Baronness of Bhakail.  Immediately following that there may be a slave auction to benefit the East Kingdom Pennsic fund (the royal encampment needs plastic cups and water and other such necessities for the many volunteers who help the royals at Pennsic).  Contact Lord Adolphus Xavier Benner to volunteer to be auctioned off.  "Slaves" will be only for one evening in the tavern only - in public- and will not be required to do anything beyond the bounds of good taste.

Bardic Circle
Given a sufficient quantity of dark and a bonfire, a Bardic Circle is bound to occur. It should be dark by 9pm on Saturday evening, and if you arrive early you can applaud the efforts of our young bards-to-be at the Children's Bardic Circle which starts at 8pm.

Feast and Court

Feast will be served buffet-style and will be opened at 5:30pm on Saturday by our Baron and Baroness.  After they are served, the populace will be invited to fill their plates and sit down for court.  On-board seating will be first-come, first served, with the exception of reserved seats at high tables and staff tables. There will be off-board seating available.  The Populace are encouraged to bring their own chairs to augment the availability of seating.  We encourage families with children to have first pick of the available rental chairs.  Court will take place during dinner, starting at approximately 6pm.

Feast Menu:

Lamb Stew: lamb, barley, salt, pepper, parsley, worchestershire sauce, carrots, onion, celery, turnips, cloves

Honey-Glazed Chicken and Stuffing: chicken, honey, apples, onions, cinnamon, cloves

Sweet Peas and Mint: peas, mint, butter, sugar

Pottage: eggs, milk, breadcrumbs, almonds, sugar, saffron, salt, cheddar cheese

Carrot Soup: carrots, cinnamon, sugar, dates, currants

Scones: flour, butter, milk, sugar

The Rampant Fox Tavern

What would a Brew and Brawl be without a Brew?  We don't know either; we have Brew.  Come visit our "tavern" in which we will share all our favorite brews.  Donations to the brewers guild are strongly recommended to cover the cost of materials.  Bring a chair and a mug down to the tavern and drink to the health of our King and Queen, our Prince and Princess, and our Baron and Baronness.  And the Cooks.  And the Brewers.  And the... okay - now you have to come up with your own excuses to sample the brews.  No doubt you will come up with more.

For the comfort and health of the maximum number of people, there will be no smoking in the tavern area.  An area outside the tavern area will be designated for those who wish to smoke and ash cans will be provided to reduce litter.

No persons under the age of 21 will be admitted to the Tavern Area; please bring photo id.

Sunday Benefit Breakfast:

On Sunday morning from 8am to 10am, the Incipient Canton of Gleann nam Feòrag Dubh will host a breakfast to benefit the East Kingdom Travel Fund.   The canton requests a donation of $3 per adult and $2 per child under 12 for each person partaking of the breakfast.  The planned menu includes pancakes, french toast, and sausage.   Instant coffee and orange drink will be available.  Breakfast will be masterminded by Lady Triona MacCasky , known and loved for the making of Tadcaster "Cheeken" (chicken).
